v8.0 - Video conferencing. Transmit tab audio. New, simplified pricing.

Video conferencing - web audio beta is complete

Our web audio functionality has completed its beta test and is now the default audio mode for scheduled meetings, although you can still choose phone call or phone conference when creating a scheduled meeting link.

Web audio along with the ability to request viewer webcams lets you run full-fledged video conferences with your clients, all without them ever needing to download or install or sign up to any complicated software, and all compatible with almost any browser on any device including their smartphone.

Transmit tab audio

We have also added the ability to transmit tab audio playing in a browser tab, into the meeting. You do not need to be in a video conference to do this - you can transmit tab audio into a regular CrankWheel screen share where you are on a phone call with your client. When you turn tab audio on, you are immediately prompted to pick a tab to share so that we can share its audio. When you turn it off, tab audio is no longer sent. Only the currently shared tab's audio is shared into the meeting, and no other audio playing from your computer. No audio is shared if you are sharing full screen or application window. Your viewer or viewers are prompted to allow playback the first time you request to play audio in a session.

The tab audio feature is available for now only on Chrome and Edge browsers, and only when our browser extension is installed.

Note that depending on the mobile phone make and browser type that your viewer is using, tab audio may not play while the phone is also being used for a telephone call. This also means that if you called your client using a regular phone call, and your screen sharing session is connected to the same mobile phone that you called, then in many cases tab audio will not be able to play because the phone mutes all audio other than the call.

Another known issue for now is that tab audio and web audio do not play well together, at least not on recordings. If you play tab audio while also using web audio, the recording will likely only contain the tab audio during its playback (but will include voice via web audio when tab audio is not being shared and while tab audio is silent).

New, simplified pricing

Also in this release is our new pricing as of March 23rd 2025, which simplifies down to just two self-serve plans, Solo and Team (the latter of which can be stacked anywhere from 100 to 2000 included meetings per month for the needs of larger teams), plus of course Enterprise custom plans.

Existing users who were on our Pro plan (single user, unlimited usage) have been moved to the Solo plan, saving them $10/month. Existing users who were on our Essential plan are now on the Solo plan as well, paying the same as before but receiving unlimited usage of all our standard features and branding options.

Teams of 2 or more users on existing paid plans will stay on their current pricing plan if they do nothing, or can switch to the new pricing at their discretion. For many teams this will come with savings, but some are on old plans with very beneficial pricing and can choose to stay on those.
